Programme Objective
In this three-day programme, participants will learn to apply the fundamental accounting policies to understand the implications on an organisation’s finances, maintain a general ledger in accordance with sound bookkeeping practices, and prepare basic financial statements to provide information on financial positions and performance.

Programme Outline

(Please note that participants are required to bring along their laptop on Day2 and Day3 of the course)
1. Apply basic accounting concepts

  • Categorise accounts according to the components of a Balance Sheet and Income Statement
  • Apply fundamental accounting policies to prepare appropriate journal entries
  • Analyse financial transactions to determine how they impact the Cash Flow Statement

 
2. Maintain a General Ledger

  • Use appropriate technology to enhance efficiency when preparing basic financial statements
  • Identify the components of the General Ledger to effectively categorise financial transactions
  • Use the Accounting Cycle to maintain a General Ledger


3. Prepare basic financial statements

  • Apply the underlying assumptions when preparing financial statements
  • Use appropriate Financial Reporting Standards to prepare the financial statements
  • Explain the need to conduct audits of financial statements
  • Prepare basic financial statements according to regulatory requirements
  • Adhere to code of conduct, values and ethics to prepare accurate financial statements

Interactive competency-based training, with a combination of lectures, group discussions, case-studies and assessments.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Company must be registered or incorporated in Singapore and;
  • Applicant is taking the course for the first time.
  • Applicant must be employed, and is either Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident of Singapore and;
  • Applicant must achieve at least 75% attendance, and pass all examinations /assessments and;
  • Applicant must be fully sponsored by the Company for all costs associated with the training and;
  • Payment has to be made via corporate means (e.g. corporate cheque, corporate GIRO, corporate credit card).

2] SkillsFuture Credit (SFC)

All Singaporeans aged 25 and above will receive an opening credit of S$500 from the government. The credits will not expire and periodic top-ups will be provided by the government. SFC may be accumulated to pay for skills related course fees. If you wish to enrol for the course with SFC Funding, please proceed with the following steps:

Julie is a qualified US Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and started her career as an Auditor with Ernst & Young (EY) Singapore where she managed a large portfolio of listed and multinational audit clients in various industries.
 
Subsequently, she transferred to the Learning & Development (L&D) department of EY to pursue her passion to become a trainer. There, she focused on facilitating topics related to auditing and soft-skills for participants across all ranks in EY. As a Director, Julie headed the L&D function across ASEAN, where she was responsible for driving the learning and development initiatives to develop organisational and people capabilities in 14 countries.
 
After more than 15 years with EY, Julie left to focus on being a facilitator and an executive coach. She is now the Managing Director and Founder of Mastering Success, a corporate training, coaching and consultancy company.
